"하나님이 선하신 사랑의 하나님이라면 어떻게 이 세상에 그토록 많은 고통과 아픔을 허락하실 수 있겠는가?"

위의 도전적인 질문을 전 세계의 그리스도인들은 여기저기서 들었을 것이다.

나는 이 질문에 대한 많은 글과 설교들을 읽고 들었다.
그러나 닉 부이치치가 자신의 비디오에서 이 질문에 대한 답변을 공유한 것을 들었을 때 그의 간단하면서도 심오한 답변이 마음에 들었다.

그는 전능하신 하나님이 선하시기에 인간에게 자유 의지를 주시고 완전하며 악이나 고통이 없는 세상에서 살게 해 주셨을 때 인간들은 속이는 자의 말을 듣고 하나님께 죄를 지었기 때문에 죽음 뿐이 아니라 고통과 아픔이 또한 따라 온 것이라고 말했다.

왜 하나님은 처음부터 그의 온전한 세상에 이르기까지 기만자에게 그런 악한 일을 하도록 허락하셨는가? 나는 거듭나지 않은 많은 사람들이 하나님의 공의와 거룩함과 그의 영광을 알지 못하기 때문에 이해할 수 없겠지만 하나님은 자신의 영광을 위해 그렇게 하셨다고 믿는다.

최근에 들은 알 시 스프로울 박사의 누가복음 13:1-4 설교는 위의 질문에 대한 좋은 통찰력을 내게 주었다.

그 구절들에서 예수님은 사람들이 겪는 고난은 고난 받는 사람들이 다른 사람들보다 더 큰 죄를 지어서가 아니라 우리 모두가 회개하지 않으면 다들 그러한 운명에 직면할 수 있다고 말씀하셨다.

그래서 예수님은 불공평하게도 (무고하게도 ?) 고통을 겪는 사람들에게 우리 모두가 겪는 고통은 우리가 이 땅에서 살면서 지은 죄뿐 아니라 원죄의 결과라는 것을 상기시켜 주셨다.

그리고 아담이 범죄했을 때 하나님은 이 지구 땅을 저주하지 않으셨던가?  그렇다 !하나님은 그리 하셨다.!
나는 하나님께서는  자신이 유지하시려는 정의를 위해 그렇게 하셨고 로마서 8장 28절에서 약속하신 대로 그분의 영광을 위해 우리 모두가 겪는 고난과 고통을 선으로 만드실 수 있으시기에 그리 하셨다고 믿는다.

"If God is a good God of love, how could he allow so much pain and sufferings on this planet?"

Christians all over the world must have heard the above challenging question from all around.

I have read and heard enough many articles and sermons on this question. But when I heard what Nick Vujicic shared his answer to this question in his videos,  I came to like his simple yet profound answer.

He said the pains and sufferings came about with death, for man chose to listen to the deceiver and sinned against God when God, Almighty in His goodness, gave humanity the FREEWILL and let them live in the perfect world without any evil around and with no sufferings.

Why God allowed the deceiver to do such an evil thing from the beginning to His perfect world?  I believe God did so for His own glory's sake though many unregenerate could not comprehend as they knew not God's Justice, Holiness and His Glory.

The sermon by Dr. RC Sproul on Luke 13:1-4, I heard recently, also shed a good insight for me into the above question. In those verses, Jesus told us that the sufferings people go through are not because they are worse sinners than the others, but we all could face such fate should we not repent of our sins.

Thus, Jesus reminded us of those people who suffered seemingly unfair sufferings, that sufferings we all go through are the result of our original sin as well as sins we all committed during our lives on this planet.

And didn't God curse the earth when Adam sinned? Yes, He did! And I believe God did so for the Justice He upholds and because He could make good out of sufferings and pains we all go through for His glory's sake as He promised in Romans 8:28.
